I've had my first two lectures of the semester and both have been very enlightening and have got me pretty pumped for the next four months. My Children's Lit is a big class (which I expected anyway), but I love the prof, so it will be a good course. My International Studies course seems good- the prof has broken down the mark so that you are graded on a bunch of different little papers based on our reading instead of one big research paper. Which I like- it relieves the stress and pressure a bit. I can handle 5 little 4 paged opinion based pieces, but a major research paper would have added some additional stress. I stayed after class and had a good chat with the prof (again, I know I'm a keener). I wanted to ask her how this course would be relavant to the Anthropology course I took last year. And that digressed into a discussion about the course material in general, and that digressed into a more broad talk about majors and minors and choices offered at UNBSJ. I left with a smile on my face because I like finding profs who will spend those extra twenty minutes with a student just chatting. Partly this was my way of getting a feel for what type of prof she is, and thus cementing my decision to take the course. I think she was a little surprised when I told her I am technically a first year student. I think it will be a good time.
Today is my first Contempoary Arthurian Lit lecture. I am partway into the Twain (Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court) for the course- it's a pretty interesting read, and I can see why it's studied at a University level because Twain is being very political in the novel.
On other matters- I made a delightful discovery yesterday afternoon at the City Market. While debating whether to buy fish or chicken for supper, I was standing halfway between the fish market and the chicken place. Which is exactly where the NBWine place is. So I was like Hum, Wine. I wandered in knowing that Lydia has recommended the fruit wines they sell there. And wow- I didn't realize all the unique fruit wines they have! Cranberry, Apple, Blueberry, Pear, Cherry. I chose to get the Wildberry one, which the gentleman working there told me tastes like Strawberries. I tried a small glass last night while preparing supper (I decided to get chicken)- and wow! It was delightful! And they are very reasonably priced as well, which also made me happy.
