Yesterday was the Post Card exercise. This was our first lighting design exercise. We were each given a post card and had to recreate it. We used some basic props or costumes, and then lights. The primary objective was to recreate the feeling or atmosphere of the postcard. Almost all the postcard were portraits (except mine...) This was my postcard:

It turned out allright... I used a couple flats to recreate the first doorway and then used a separation in the back masking to pull back and create the second doorway. I used a source four zoom for the downstage window, and just shuttered it to make the square on the floor; a 9x12 Leko for the middle room, and I made a gobo to recreate the window designs; and another 9x12 upstage on the woman sweeping. I used a beigh sheet upstage to reflect as the room around the woman sweeping and put up a couple curtains in the middle room, so the walls looked brown instead of black. (If you don't understand all that, do not worry. That was a slight slip into techi lingo.)

The major thing that was missing was the red. If I redid it I would throw in a fernel to do a red wash over the entire thing. But it worked out okay anyway. Once I presented, Norbert played around with the levels a bit, and made it look a lot better just by tweaking a couple things.

I'm just listening to the news and I just want to say, I feel bad for the politician who's name is Pettigrew.... I mean really... I can't be the only person who thinks of Peter Pettigrew from Harry Potter every time they hear his name.

I digress. Second piece of news. My Kitty!

Her name is Piplette. (A french word meaning someone who talks a lot.) She is so pretty and soft! She is between 2 and 3 years old. She is staying with me until November 6-7. She's been with my since Friday evening. She's starting to relax and get used to me and my apartment. She's pretty laid back and relaxed... not too hyper or crazy. I'm enjoying having some company in my apartment.

Other news: I went to the preview of the first English production at the school last night. It is an experimental piece the actors and director have created. It is called Gashleycrumb. It was interesting..... it's basically a bunch of children who sort of discuss their preception of death. It was well done, but I'm just not a big fan of modern, experimental things. I prefer things to have a plot. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it, but it's just not something that I would get all excited about. However, the lighting was awesome!!!! So yeah Sarah! (The 3rd year tech student who did the lighting design.)

Well, I have the morning off, so I should so something productive with it. Like homework.... I've got to finish my scene breakdown for Three Sisters. And I've got to get a preliminary set design done for Thursday. Eek!!!!!!
