Whooo-hooo! I finally have internet in Montreal! It took me two and a half weeks of calling Bell, and stopping into the Bell store and everything to finally get it hooked up. Wow... what a pain in the ass it was. Especially since I don't have time to sit on the phone for half an hour while they try to sort out who fucked up what.
Anyway- so yeah! Two weeks into school! It's been a great two week. I've settled in, I'm happy, I'm comfortable in my apartment... everything is perfect. I have piles of stuff to write about.... but right now I want to lie down and take a nap.... the past three days have been crazy... I've spent about 60 hours at school this week... 50% of which took place on Thursday and Friday....
Well... I guess that's what happens when you mount a musical in 24 hours! Basially, Thursday at noon they announced we were mounting a production of BEAUT AND THE BEAST. Everyone picked acting and production parts out of a hat, and then we rehearsed and made set and costumes (mostly out of safety pins, glue, cardboard...) and everything in time to perform the show Friday at 8pm. (Allright... it's a little more than 24hours, cuz they give us time to sleep.) I was the production manager. Oh wow. What an experience. Considering I didn't even know my way around the school when we started on Thursday, I spent the 24hours running around finding supplies, making schedules, making sure people knew where they were to be and when, and then at the end organizing and running the strike. It was absolutly insane. And wonderful. And hilarious. And overall a bloody crazy and amazing experience. It's amazing what can happen when everyone works together on a common goal. I mean, sure, the production was absolutly horrible. One of my tech classmates played Bell, and we had an actor as the stage manager, but you know it was still awesome!
This coming week is mask week. I'm still deciding my character... although I'm thinking I might do "Puss in Boots". They can't be too complicated because we only have four days to make them. And we have to do character analysis and stuff, so I think P&B might be fun... taking some stuff from Shrek in addition to the fairy tale.
Otherwise school is getting into full swing. Started data processing today. Have spent lots of time on safety and learning our ways around the theatres. Done some lighting- hanging and focusing (so next summer I can actually focus the museum lights and know what I'm doing!!!) Also flying. Used the hemp rigging system.... much different than the modern day counter-weight system. (What the imperial has is a counterweight system.... i don't think anyone actually uses hemp anymore- the school keeps them for historical value.)
Gone out partying a couple nights... the first day of school there was a party... then my class went out last weekend. It's been good. Got together on labour day with a friend from Saint John. It's been great. I'm really adapting well to the city- it really feels like home.
