This past week was a black hole that is known as "Vinni Week". "Vinni" being one of our head coaches who is a freelance sculptor and props maker from New York. "Week" being the fact that we spent every waking hour in class with him building masks. (Except for three hour technical drawing class stuck smack in the middle of Thurday.) My mask was of "Puss in Boots" a la Shrek 2 style. *Hopefully* I will eventually have pictures I can post.
It was an extremely tiring, exhausting, mentally draining, extensivially physical week of art making. Whew.... But at the same time it was a blast (except for Wednesday when I was so tired and emotionally fragile that Vinni (being his hard nose, straight to the point, no bull shit self) pushed me straight off the edge for a moment, and I broke down into a big mess. But that's another story.) I learned SO much this week, it's impossible to sum it up easily. Beyound the fact that I actually learned how to build a mask- making molds of our faces, filling them with plaster to make plaster models of our heads, then sculpting our masks, and covering them with plaster to make a mold of our mask, then filling it with rubber, then lining it with cheesecloth, then painting... etc... it was crazy. I also learned a lot about working as a team, and the necessity to bond and work with your classmates/coworkers instead of finghting against them. The school is about working together, not like uni or high school where you are all fighting to be top of the class. We are encouraged to share ideas and work, and to ask each other for help, advice, opinions etc. It's wonderful.
So whew... yesterday was laundry day. It was an fun expidition. It was pouring. I had a huge garbage bag of dirty laundry. The laundry mat is about 5-8 min away. I was drenched by the time I got there. Note to self - get an umbrella.
Today was 6 hours of data processsing. Uugh... it was just go frustrating- me and excel don't get a long very well. Although my teacher was very impressed with how much work the class got done.
So it's all good... this week: Carpentry! Whoooo-hooo! And we meet one of the lighting design coaches for a couple classes. Should be good...
