Went to Les Miserables rehearsal afterschool today. It was, well, about what I expected. There were, I'd estimate, at least eighty people there. (Well there were three pages of names for attendance... and yes, there was attendance... there are too many people for the directors to just remember everyone...) We worked on Master of the House,At The End of the Day and The Docks. I found it was just chaotic, and I couldn't figure out what notes I was supposed to be singing because the musical teacher only went through each part once or twice... and it was just icky. Nothing felt right and no one was actually singing on pitch. I feel the only way this musical can possibly be saved is if about half the chorus is either kicked out or drops out. It nasty to say that, but that's what I truly think. I'm sorry, but you can't have eighty people onstage to effectively perform Les Mis. I'm going to stick it out for a while, and see how things shape up. I normally wouldn't consider this approipiate behaviour, but I'm really torn. Part of me wants to be involved, for the fun, and because it is a good piece of theatre. But if it's going to be of the same caliber as High School and Grease... well, if you saw those you know what I mean.
