Been a couple days since my last post... but I've been busy, so... yeah. Wednesday evening I went to Symphony New Brunswick's concert I Got Rhythm. I really enjoyed this show, the symphony did a wonderful job, and the guest pianist (who is actually primer Lord's brother) was really very good as well. The music was all pop selections, including lots of Gerswin, Rogers&Hammerstine, Scott Joplin, and Lenorard Bernstine. So this included "I Got Rhythm", "Rhapsody in Blue", "The Entertainer", medlies from "Progy and Bess", "Oklahoma!", "West Side Story", and some others. Very well done.
I've been busy with swimming as well.... I've been trying to go as much as possible... I made it four times this week (each day afterschool, except Wednesday.) Today was really fun... about two third of the way through practise, one of the guys set up water polo, since there were only twelve people at practise anyway. It was fun, and a nice break from all the laps. Although I am getting my endurance up a little... I know longer feel like I'm going to collasp after swimming fifty meters. Plus I've been learing how to do flip turns (you use them at the end of the pool to keep going... basically a sumersult then you push yourself off the wall half way through. Sounds easy, but I always seem to get water up my nose!) Charlie (aka Mr. Sullivan) was also giving me some pointers with my freestyle. Uugh... I timed myself ealier this week... it took me 45 seconds to swim fifty free... I need to knock about twelve seconds off that time to quilify for regionals (not that I'm planning on actually competing, but it would be nice to see if I can knock some time off.) I have to work really hard this next week though, because I'm swimming fifty free in a 4x50 relay at the All-Girls Meet next Friday afternoon! I'm really sorta nervous about it... because it's been a long time since I competed in anything athletic, so it's very intimidating. (Much the same way an athlete would feel about getting onstage...)
Also, last evening I went out to supper at Meix's with my co-workers from Java Moose. It was fun... my co-workers are all a really crazy bunch of people, and awesome friends.
Just finished watching Mr Deeds. I'm not much of an Adam Sandler fan, but I enjoyed this. It was light hearted, not gross humour and just good fun. I enjoyed it much more that I enjoyed some of his other films (esp The Waterboy...).
Now I'm going to work on my poetry commentary.... We're working on the Metaphysical Poets right now.... must notably John Donne. This stuff is all completely off the wall, and rather difficult to fully understand and wrap your mind around... this is the poem I have to do the commentary on: (please note that there is very percise indentation used throughout this poem... which is not shown here.)
The Collar
by George Herbert
I struck the board, and cry'd, No more;
I will abroad.
What? shall I ever sigh and pine?
My lines and life are free; free as the rode
Loose as the winde, as large as store.
Shall I be still in suit?
Have I no harvest but a thorn
To let me bloud, and not restore
What I have lost with cordiall fruit?
Sure there was wine,
Before my sighs did drie it: there was corn
Before my tears did drown it.
Is the yeare onely lost to me?
Have I no bayes to crown it?
No flowers no garlands gay? all blasted?
All wasted?
Not so, my heart: but there is fruit,
And thou hast hands.
Recover all thy sigh-blown age
On double pleasures: leave thy cold dispute
Of what is fit, and not forsake thy cage,
Thy rope of sands,
Which pettie thoughts have made, and made to thee
Good cable, to rnforce and draw,
And be thy law,
While thou didst wink and wouldst not see.
Away; take heed:
I will abroad.
Call in thy deaths head there: tie up thy fears.
He that forbears
To suit and seve his need,
Deserves his load.
But as I rav'd and grew more fierce and wilde,
At every word,
Methought I heard one calling, Childe:
And I reply'd My Lord.
