I am feeling much better this evening... the throbbing pain in my head and my stomach ache was ceased. Now, in reflection of last night... I saw As You Like It at the Gothic Arches. It was a good show considering all the factors in the production of it, and that this was the first produciton for the new Summer Shakespeare Festival. I found that overall, however, the text was often lost due to the acoustics of the space, despite the fact that the actors were putting all they had into ennunciation and projection. I really enjoyed Alex Willis who played the legendary Jaques, and said the famous all the world's a stage... speech. His energy onstage, clear speech, and active facial expressions and movements brought wonderful life to this melancholy character. As well Susan Willis (Alex's sister) did a super job as Phebe, and added a cockney accent to the character which was a good choice, I thought. Other aspects I enjoyed was the use of music- before the show and at intermission Ariane Alexander, Sarah LeBlanc, and Geoff McCausland entertained the audiance with live music (two violins and a flute). Overall, a very fine show.
I enjoyed the evening from other respects too... for instance I had a wonderful date to go see the show with... ;)
Ahh... but afterward was a fair bit of fun. I was part of the crew for the production, therefore I couldn't resist the cast party. It started with a drinking game... and ended (for me) when I found myself laying on the couch exhausted and wanting sleep. In between I had a marvellous time talking with friends, etc etc... Oh yes, and quite possibly the moment that will live on forever... when two brave girls (who will remain nameless) snuck up behind a certain other person and dumped two containers of water on her. However from my prespective on the couch all I saw was this... Two girls exiting the kitchen- each with a container full of water... pause... a scream, laughter and chaos... a certain other person coming back towards the kitchen drenched with water and yelling to the host to find her a dry pair of pants or a house coat... the host running through with a pair of dry pants... the victim then exciting with an entirely different outfit on... and somewhere along the way the victim got revenge by filling up a container of her own with water and drenching one of the two girls who got her. Mind you this is all from the perspective of me laying on the couch, a silent on looker. Regardless of anything else, I must say this was all very funny.
